ERC-20 (Ethereum Request for Comment 20) is a technical standard for creating and implementing tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. It was proposed by Fabian Vogelsteller and introduced by Vitalik Buterin, the co-founders of Ethereum, in November 2015.
Fabian Vogelsteller, a blockchain developer and contributor to the Ethereum ecosystem, authored the initial draft of the ERC-20 standard. Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, recognized the potential of Vogelsteller’s proposal and supported its adoption as a standard within the Ethereum community.
The ERC-20 standard has since become one of the most widely adopted token standards on the Ethereum blockchain. It has enabled the creation of numerous tokens, including many popular cryptocurrencies and utility tokens, and has played a significant role in the growth of decentralized finance (DeFi) and initial coin offerings (ICOs) on the Ethereum platform.
